The biggest obstacle between you and your dreams isn’t a lack of money, time, or resources. It’s fear. It’s ego. And it’s inaction.
A very good friend of mine recently launched a side hustle, and I cannot express how proud I am of her. She works a full-time job, is a mum of two, and is one of those rare people who is fully engaged in life. The kind of friend who never forgets a birthday, shows up to every engagement party, wedding, or baby shower with a beautifully thought-out card and a meaningful gift, and somehow still finds the time to invite you over for dinner. She pours herself into everything she does.
Two months ago, she mentioned wanting to start a side hustle to bring in extra income. We brainstormed ideas together, but nothing really stuck, and the conversation faded. A few weeks later, she casually mentioned she was working on something and would tell me more soon.
And then last night, I got a message:
“Exciting news! I’ve launched a side hustle. Here’s the offer, here’s how to order—can’t wait to get started!”
BOOM. DONE. JUST LIKE THAT.
No overthinking. No endless planning. No waiting for the “perfect” moment.
I know she did her research and had important conversations behind the scenes, but she didn’t let herself get stuck in analysis paralysis. She launched with:
No website.
No social media presence.
No existing customers.
No stock.
No risk.
And most importantly, no fear.
She didn’t let the questions that stop so many people — Will this work? Will people like it? Will I make money? Is the market too saturated? — get in her way. She didn’t let her ego talk her out of it by worrying about what others would think. She simply said, F** it, I’m doing it.
Why This Matters
Her product? An alcoholic drink — a category filled with competitors, both premium and budget-friendly. There was no obvious gap in the market, no unique selling point that made it an instant no-brainer. She has no distribution network and will be driving and delivering orders herself.
There are so many reasons why she could have convinced herself not to launch. But she didn’t.
She launched anyway.
And this is where most people get it wrong. Fear, ego, and inaction kill more dreams than failure ever will.
So many people overthink themselves into never starting.
So many people let self-doubt and imposter syndrome creep in.
So many people worry about what others will say or think.
And in the process, they stay exactly where they are — waiting for a moment of certainty that never comes.
Clarity Creates Action
What I love most about my friend’s story is that she started with a clear vision:
“I want to eventually quit my full-time job so I have more time with my family. I want to earn more money, and that’s not possible at the scale I need while working for someone else.”
She already sees her future self — running a thriving business, working from home, picking up her kids from school, supporting their hobbies, and making the kind of money that allows her to live the life she truly wants.
Her clarity created her action. And now, she’s in motion.
What’s Stopping You?
If you’re sitting there wondering whether to start a side hustle, launch your dream business, create multiple income streams, or finally go freelance — remember:
The only thing standing between you and your dream life is YOU.
So ask yourself:
What am I afraid of?
What am I worried people will think?
What am I not doing?
The answer to those three questions could be the key to unlocking everything you’ve ever wanted.
